A stone chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony the Great was designed for the Igumen Cemetery of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Valaam Monastery (Valaam Island), located about 25 m north of the historic bell tower. The cemetery ensemble, founded in 1876, is defined by a church and a freestanding belfry in the so-called rational brick style, which set the architectural tone for the new volume. The chapel is composed as a square plan with chamfered edges, transitioning into a spherical octagonal dome crowned by a small cupola and cross. A western narthex forms the main entrance with an arched portal, while a semicircular apse completes the eastern side; a mosaic icon above the entrance is provided in the design. Facades use cornices, pilasters, and arched openings consistent with the historic context; recessed crosses are set into the brickwork on the chamfered planes. Daylight is brought in through arched windows and four round clerestory openings under the upper cornice. Project author: chief architect Yuriy V. Kirs, Architectural Workshop “Eidos”. Client: Spaso-Preobrazhensky Valaam Stauropegial Monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church. Project role: contributor - Revit 3D modeling, visualization, working drawings.
